Standards
Manufactured to conform with the requirements of strength of construction and stability of BS4875: Parts 7 & 8: 1985. And BS 5873: Part 4: 1998. Tables & Chairs comply with BS 5873: Parts 2 & 3: 1991. Ultima 5000 is type tested to the standards as defined by DfES for use in Educational Establishments. Detail in Broadsheet 31 DfES SPBG153 Educational Furniture Database - Setting the Standards. Type testing ensures that the furniture is suitable for use in Educational Premises and will meet the obligations of governing bodies with regards to the Education Act 1993.
Carcase - panels are constructed of high performance melamine faced particleboard (MFC). This material has passed BS6250 Part 3, Laminate Performance. Tops & Bottoms are of 25mm, ends are of 18mm with divisions 15mm and backs 8mm to match. All carcase panels are lipped in high impact resistance 1mm PVC edging to match carcase colour. All fronts are edged in 3mm PVC with rounded edges. Units are doweled, glued and cramped and are available in a choice of colours.
Plinths - underbench units are supported on four heavy duty adjustable feet. Each unit is supplied with 75mm feet adjustable from 60 - 90mm and 125mm feet adjustable from 110 - 145mm. Plinth rails are supplied in continuous lengths of 18mm dark grey (BS 00A13) melamine faced MR board. Sealing strips are provided for wet areas.
Castors - available as an option to all non-serviced units are two-wheel hooded castors, in metal die-cast units with a load bearing capacity of 56kg each. Castor height 75mm overall. Castors on semi-mobile units have a load bearing capacity of 60kg each.
Drawers - sides of epoxy powder coated mild steel in cream, RAL 9001. Bottom and back are of 15mm melamine faced particleboard, lipped on exposed edges with 1mm PVC. Drawers are mounted on soft rollered runners. Normal drawer side depth is 71mm with bottom drawers having 135mm side depth internally. Fronts are 123 and 185mm respectively. Drawers can be fitted with Blum pull out stops as an option. Please ask for details.
Shelves - underbench cupboard units are fitted with an adjustable shelf. Manufactured from 18mm MFC board lipped in 1mm PVC to front edge these are supplied to match carcase finish. Shelves are supported on transparent shelf clips with 5mm steel pins.
Hinges - Hetal MB20 contract quality semi-concealed chrome plated hinges. Hinges are adjustable to 230 degrees. Hinges are fitted using Euroscrews to ensure strength of fixing and durability. Hinges have integral catches. Doors are tested to exceed 45kg loading to top corner.
Handles - solid plastic ‘D’ pull 15mm diameter. Finger space 80 x 24mm, available in a choice of colours. Alternative handles are available to customer preference.
Drawer Fronts and Doors - made from 18mm MFC lipped all round in 3mm PVC to match carcase. Fronts are available in a wide selection of colours - see our Colour Guide. The Ultima 5000+ range offers doors and drawers lipped in 16mm solid beech or maple, with the additional option of beech or maple veneered fronts.
Locks - are available on request. Locks are fitted, as standard, to all tall cupboard and wardrobe units. When required, locks are fitted to top drawer only on drawer units and both door and drawer on Drawer / Cupboard units. To request locks add Suffix L to order.
Glass - all glass used in our ranges for fronts is 4.5mm toughened safety glass. Ultima 5000 offers an outstanding range of colour choice. In addition to standard fronts lipped in 3mm PVC, we also offer Ultima 5000+ giving the option of fronts lipped in 16mm solid beech, or maple and adding the option of real maple or beech veneered fronts to the range.
All Ultima 5000 and 5000+ base units are designed to form a fully co-ordinated system. Ultima 5000 and 5000+ are type tested to BS 5873: part 4 to test level H as recommended by the DfES and The Scottish Executive.
Type Testing tests constructional strength and stability over the average expected life of the unit within the educational environment with an element of abuse built in.
