The Business Environmental Partnership

One of their principal aims is to make the Scottish economy more competitive by allowing companies to realise cost savings, reduced risks and improved customer offering through improved environmental management and assured compliance with legislation.

James Bell has been appointed as the Havelock Group's Environmental Champion on an environmental placement under the auspices of the government's Business Environmental Partnership. James has been set the challenge of reducing the Division's carbon footprint.

James will be working closely with the Facilities Manager, and one of his primary objectives is to further reduce the volume of waste being sent to landfill from the sites at Dalgety Bay (Retails Interiors) and Kirkcaldy (ESA McIntosh). This will be achieved by diverting wood waste to biomass recycling plants.

James estimates that work in this area will produce a 70% reduction in waste to landfill, or a carbon saving of 322 carbon tons per annum. This initiative is now underway at both locations. He will also be assisting staff to make improvements in recycling and energy saving through a programme of awareness.
